Road Trippin'

“The great home of the soul is the open road.”
— D.H. Lawrence

I love road trips.  I especially love solo road trips.  Just me and the open road.  Audiobooks, real books, music and wandering.  Quite simply, there is nothing i’d rather do.

Road trips give me time to reflect, to roam and play.  Over the years, the adventures I've enjoyed most are the ones i’ve planned the least.  I’ve learned that it’s so important to give yourself room to listen to your intuition and change course or stay put whenever the moment strikes.

“The only real valuable thing is intuition”
— Albert Einstein

One of the reasons I’ve always loved road trips is that it gives me the opportunity to step out of my daily life.  This gives me the much needed clarity that gets lost when I’m knee deep-deep in the thick of it at the studio.  Doing this gives me the opportunity to assess how things are going in life and if I have the right priorities, values, goals, etc..

So with that being said, here's a little tribute to the open road!

The Colour of Shadow

Newfoundland, 2008

Newfoundland, 2008

At the beginning of last year I set out to create a book of my personal landscape work.  I’ve been working on this body of work for the past 12 years.  I’ve always wanted to do a book, so I felt it was time to put something together.  When i’m not shooting in the studio - my passion is to travel and shoot landscapes.  From the beginning of my photography career I’ve always shot landscapes as part of my personal work.  It’s actually been an integral part of the development of my commercial work.

Blasted by the Sun

'It's a dry heat'. My trusty assistant Matt said to me over and over again as the sweat poured off his face. We were recently sent out to Nevada to shoot Enbridge's new solar plant, the Silver State North Solar Project. The heat was intense and we were scorched by the constant desert sun, but there is something that I just love about being in these wide open spaces.

Here are some images from our shoot.
